Vote for QUEER OF THE YEAR 2006!

In a Year of Celebrity OUT-ings... WGAY-TV asks the question: Who is the Queer of the Year?

WGAY-TV the first, free gay TV station, online, anytime at http:wgay.tv, wants to know in a year of celebrity out-ings and queer career comebacks...Who will go down in Gay & Lesbian history as the most remembered of 2006???

In 1997, Ellen Degeneres reigned supreme coming out of the closet on the cover of Time magazine, and coining the phrase "Yup, I'm Gay." Now as 2006 draws to a close, when breakups, babies and betrayals monopolized the headlines, and the phrase being "Lance 'd," might be a better line when a celebrity comes clean on the personal rumors of their private life...

WGAY-TV wants to know who generated the biggest gay headlines this year!

Nominees include:

Neil Patrick Harris

Lance Bass

Rosie O'Donnell

Mary Cheney

and Carmen Electra.

It's All Over - Lance Bass Splits With Reichen!

Making the headlines today is this just released bit of news in the world of gay celebrity dating.

As mentioned on Howard Stern's radio show this morning on Sirius as well as on Blog Buddy Ellegedly.com, Lance Bass and Reichen Lehmkuhl have called it quits.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Unfortunately, I have to honestly say this news is not TOO shocking. There have been rumors floating around for awhile now about their situation was rocky at best. The general thought about what happened is that Lance was pressured into coming out on the cover of People Magazine, by Reichen, at the same time Reichen's book "Here's What We'll Say" was being released in stores. And from what I know, that is certainly believable as Reichen was on many different radio and TV stations at the time to talk about Lance, but to also plug his book. So the relationship could have been "fake" or at the very least created in part by Reichen to help promote his book, but it seems Lance was not in on this. In addition, they were reported to have been fighting a lot and agreed to the mutual break up.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

But not to waste time, Ellegedly.com reports that Lance has already got himself another man. The other day, Bass showed up with a very attractive man as his date to the opening of Sunset Beach in L.A. As far as Reichen goes, I am guessing he remains single, looking for another closeted gay man to leech off of to find success. (Did I just say that?)

Anyway, I'll keep you posted if I hear more about the break-up of Lance and Reichen. I will drop everything I am doing to give you the latest news!

A new FREE Gay TV Station is Coming Soon!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Get ready for even more gay's on TV coming soon, espeically if you live in Florida. I wanted to share this recent press release about the debut of a new television station aimed at the GLBT audience.

Located in Key West, WGAY-TV will be the first, over the air, free gay TV station in the country.... and online at http://wgay.tv. WGAY-TV will launch live on-line at 12AM on January 1, 2007, offering free programming accessible from anywhere in the world? WGAY-TV will also be expanding to cable systems across the U.S. in 2007, with its initial launch exclusively on Key West cable systems.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

"Our goal is to offer a variety of free programming both online and through local cable affiliates, that will appeal to the diverse gay and lesbian population." Said Jason Sherwood, General Manager & Co-Founder of WGAY-TV.

Sherwood added, "It's exciting for us to create the concept that gay and lesbian vacationers in Key West will have a local network dedicated to them." "A station they can watch from the comfort of a hotel room on their Key West vacation or back at home when they go online."

WGAY-TV will be developing and creating original material that is fun, positive and entertaining to everyone visiting key west and abroad. The station will interchange original programming produced in Key West, as well as, featuring content from Pride Nation?s extensive library of programming.

Continued Sherwood, "We feel offering this added content will help brand the networks birth here in Key West."

Key West is one of the top destinations for Gay and Lesbian tourists, with Gay consumers spending $55 billion a year on travel, Studies have estimated that the adult GLBT community has a total economic spending power of more than $641 billion per year, according to Wietck Combs (2006).

It has also been found that for every one dollar invested in gay tourism marketing, $153 was returned in direct economic spending in shops, hotels, restaurants and attractions (Community Marketing Inc. 2006), making the GLBT community a viable niche audience for travel and entertainment.

WGAY-TV, America's First Free Gay Station, was established in 2006 by Burt Sherwood and Jason Sherwood, General Manager of WGAY-TV. Currently available online at http://wgay.tv, offering a wide variety of original and acquired programming, dedicated to the world's largest gay and lesbian audience and lovers of the southern most point, Key West.

----------------------------------------------------------

Since I don't reside in Key West, for now I have to watch this on-line if I want to see it. I only hope Directv will pick up the service like they did with Logo when it first came out. So will there be room on the dial for another gay tv station (there's a sentence I never thought I'd say...)?

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It is good to see so many 24 hour gay stations emerging, I just hope it has enough decent content to sustain it. I like Logo, but it seems like they show the same programs over and over again sometimes. But it is nice to know the channel exists and I for one do not want to see it (or any of them) be removed from the airwaves. So I wish WGAY TV the best of luck and I hope I'll be able to watch it on a TV set in my house soon!

The Real World Denver - Meet Davis

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Debuting last week on MTV, the 18th season (yes, that is not a typo) of The Real World features the usual blend of hot college age guys and gals all living together under roof to find out what happens when they stop being polite, and start getting real. And as has become a mainstay on pretty much every season, there is a gay housemate. This season, we will be following the adventures of Davis, a 23 year old from Marietta, Georgia.

The Advocate Magazine had the pleasure of sitting down with him to chat about his life, being gay, coming out and more. It is a very interesting read. Here are a few of the highlights. For the entire interview, just go HERE.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Having seen previous seasons of The Real World, which usually feature one gay or lesbian cast member, did you feel like you were "the gay one"? Did that matter to you?

I feel like they always have...not always, but a lot of times there's a gay character. And I had to do a lot of talking to myself, like, Am I only cast for this show because I'm gay? But there are tons of gay people who try out every season for this show, so obviously there must be something different about me from the rest of them. In life, I'm a real straight-acting kind of gay guy. I'm in a fraternity, I've barely been to any gay bars. I hardly even went when I was in Denver. Most of my friends, if not all of them, are straight. I have a few gay friends. And so, for me, I thought maybe I was being cast for being more like the "straight gay guy." They hadn't really cast a ton of those before. But I didn't want to have to come in and, like, come out immediately to everyone. 'Cause I felt like the guys would immediately label me as "the gay character." And I just came out a year ago. So it was kinda tough, coming in knowing that people are gonna expect someone to be gay, and fingers might be pointed at me, and what are they gonna think? And are they gonna still be my friends? That sort of stuff was going through my head.

So you were not out in the house immediately upon arriving there.

No. I mean, I didn't come in and be like, "I'm gay!" It took some time. Unfortunately, because this is a show that usually has a gay character, people were asking, "Is there somebody gay?" And I wasn't gonna lie and be like, "Oh, I¹m not," and then tell everyone a month later. So if I was ever confronted, I did [come out], but it wasn't all, like, [from] day one.

What was the response from the other housemates?

The girls had no issues. In fact, one of them was craving a gay character. Some of the guys had issues with it, homophobic issues. I mean, that¹s probably why they were chosen. I'm from a really strong Christian family, so we had a lot of talks about, like, "Is this a choice?" And, what are my views about, you know, if you condemn drinking in the Bible, how is that any different from condemning being gay in the Bible, when my Christian friends are drinking, you know? So it was things like that. One of my favorite persons in the house is one of the guys, and we have become really good friends because of it. So I don't feel like it was a typical "gay guy that only is friends with girls" scenario.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

What do you think will be the general reaction of your community when you go back to Marietta?

I don't know. I have gotten to the point in my life where I just want to be happy. I want to be in a relationship with a guy because that makes me happy, and I want to just be proud of who I am and not ashamed of anything anymore. I don't really care what my friends from my school who may not be my friends anymore think.

What can you tell us about your relationship?

We've been dating now for nine months. We actually went to high school together. We're from neighborhoods just down the street from each other. He's really into baseball, he's in a fraternity. He's sort of a guy's guy. I knew him in high school but not knowing he was gay, and I think the same thing went for him with me. So we were hanging out over Christmas break, someone mentioned to him that I was gay and thought we should hang out. I guess he'd come out to one friend, and that friend set us up. And then, through the process, he's actually gotten more confident and proud of who he is, and he started to come out to lots of people, and this show will be a similar experience for him, in that a lot of his friends from college and high school don't know that he's gay. But he made an appearance [on the show], so it'll be an experience for him. We'll be going through it together.

If you haven't checked out the first episode, it airs again several more times this week, so don't miss it. And be sure to catch the rest of The Real World Denver airing at 10:00PM Wednesday's on MTV with repeats about 200 times during the week!

All My Children introducing transgender character

I'm back from my Thankgiving break. I ate too much food, shopped for some awesome bargains on Black Friday, and started decorating for the holidays yesterday. Plus watched lots of great gay porn all weekend long. In addition, while I was gone, I saw this posted on Yahoo News and thought it would make a good topic for today's post!

In a story unusual even for a soap opera and believed to be a television first, ABC's "All My Children" this week will introduce a transgender character who is beginning to make the transition from a man into a woman.

The character, a flamboyant rock star known as Zarf, kisses the lesbian character Bianca and much drama ensues. The storyline begins with Thursday's episode of the daytime drama.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There have been a handful of post-surgical transgender characters in television shows, including a college professor in the 2001 prime-time CBS series "The Education of Max Bickford" and a model in the short-lived ABC soap opera "The City" in 1996, according to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Showtime's "The L Word" currently features a character changing from a woman into a man.

"All My Children" was looking for something new, and knows its audience is always interested in anything to do with sexuality, said Julie Hanan Carruthers, the show's executive producer.

"After 36 years, you start rehashing," she said. "It's inevitable. We didn't want to fall back on the baby-switch story again."

The show wasn't interested in doing something just to be sensational, she said. GLAAD and some transgenders were brought in as consultants in shaping the character, teaching the producers when it is appropriate to call a character "she" even before surgery, she said.

Damon Romine, a spokesman for GLAAD, said he hasn't seen the show yet but feels people involved were genuinely interested in telling the story with dignity. Emotions are so close to the surface in soap operas, and this story can serve a purpose by showing what transgenders go through, he said.

"I think it's groundbreaking and breakthrough television for daytime to put a spotlight on transgender people and tell their story," he said.

"All My Children" could use some attention. Mirroring the decline of daytime dramas in general, its average audience has slipped from 8.2 million in 1991-92 to 3.1 million last year, according to Nielsen Media Research. Particularly last summer, "All My Children" has tried several new characters, said Carolyn Hinsey, editor of Soap Opera Weekly.

"They're trying really hard and they're throwing a whole lot of desperate stuff against the wall to see what sticks," she said.

Actor Jeffrey Carlson portrays Zarf, an American who nonetheless speaks in an exaggerated British accent. He was on the show for one day last summer and was surprised to get a call pitching him the new story.

Carlson said it can be intimidating feeling that he is representing the entire transgender community.

"I worry about missing something, but I guess that would be the same with any character," he said. "I want the `All My Children' audience to go along. It's not for shock value. It's just another person who's story is being told in Pine Valley."

After Zarf establishes a bond with Bianca that leads to the kiss, an angry Bianca tells him she's a lesbian. It triggers something within Zarf about why it made such sense to be falling in love with a lesbian.

It's not clear, Carruthers said, whether "All My Children" will stick with the Zarf character through any surgery; one suspects the reaction of the soap's audience to the story will have a lot to do with it.

"She talks about peace so much," Carlson said of his character. "I hope that she finds some peace."

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Now I do not watch All My Children, so I can't say how this will impact the show. But I am glad to see ABC "going there" and taking a risk and adding a character like this to a well established soap opera. I just worry that the audience will have a problem accepting it. I picture the typical soap opera fan as a middle aged or older woman in her bathrobe and curlers watching her "stories." Now I know this is not at all 100% true of everyone who watches soap operas, partly because I used to watch one a few years ago. And soap operas have a large gay following in part to the goregous male eye candy on the shows. So they should have no problem with a transgender character. Time will tell if the rest of the fans will be as understanding!

And speaking of goregous male eye candy, here are a few of the current hotties on All My Children, in case you are thinking of watching the show now!

Sexiest/Gayest Season Of Survivor Yet?

If you are fan of reality TV, and especially the current season of Survivor on CBS, you have got to check these two stories out. One about a contestant with a XXX porn past and one about a possible gay romance that was sparked on the show from two of the players!

Up First:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

As reported on Reality Burred.com: Besides a number of actors, Survivor Cook Islands also has a former reality TV star and a porn star, all bundled up into one contestant. Oscar "Ozzy" Lusth appeared in an episode of Playboy TV's Foursome, Star reported earlier this fall. The series calls itself "the only TV dating program that shows everything," and that's an understatement.

The episode includes him getting oral sex from one of the women, mud wrestling and showering naked, and having sex with both women?and during it all, he?s using his real name.

Now, a poster at the Campfire Video Discussion Board has uploaded 11 Ozzy-centered images and video clips from the episode, and they show Ozzy proving that he's as talented on other reality shows as he is on Survivor.

While he's getting oral sex from one of the female participants, the clip cuts to an interview, where Ozzy?looking and sounding just like he does on Survivor?tells the camera, "She starts going down on me, and does an excellent job, excellent job. She's got a lot of talent in that field." Later, in a voice-over, he says, "I blew my load in her mouth like she told me to, because that's how she likes it."

To see more of Ozzy completely naked and fucking (females, but we can ignore them), you'll have to go HERE to download them!

The other (more gay) Survivor story is the following:

Brad Virata (right, below), who was kicked off Survivor Cook Islands last week, may be dating another male contestant on the show, J.P (left).

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

In an interview with AfterElton.com, Brad responds to a question about rumors that he and J.P. are dating by laughing and then saying, "Um, it's all about timing in life. I can't answer that. JP is a great guy. You'll have to wait for the finale." That's largely a non-answer answer, but if there was no truth to those rumors, or if J.P. was straight, Brad probably would have just said so.

J.P. Calderon, by the way, works part-time as a bartender at a gay bar, The Silver Fox, in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Gazette. Working at a gay bar doesn't make him gay, of course, but it'd be interesting if this diverse season had two openly gay male contestants who both left the show without any mention of their sexual orientation, especially if they had some sort of relationship during production.

Speaking of, Brad says he's "surprised" that the series didn't include conversations about his sexual orientation because "everyone knew" that he is gay. He says, "I'm surprised that CBS didn?t show my whole coming out story. We had a powwow, sort of a roundtable campfire discussion when we merged, and that's when I told my story." That story includes that "I grew up athletic, I grew up playing football, I grew up running track," he says. "Over all, just from a physical standpoint, I kept up with them. I kicked some straight boy booty."

As to Nate, his fellow cast member "apologized to me after the fact" for calling him a "nancy boy" in an interview, Brad says. "I don't think he meant to call me nancy boy in a bad way. I think it was a stress factor, and it was pissing rain, you know? You take everything with a grain of salt. He apologized to me after the fact, and it is what it is, but I know a lot of people are pissed off about it."

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

To read the full interview with Brad, go to the AfterElton.com website! I know I now can't wait for that reunion show that airs next month to see if anything is said about this or not! To my knowledge, it would be the first ever gay romance sparked on Survivor! Hey... is that an immunity idol in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

Survivor Cook Islands airs at 8PM Thursday's on CBS.

Dr. Doogie Likes Dick... Neil Patrick Harris Is Gay

This story broke late Friday, so it may be old by now to you, but I felt it still deserved a blog entry.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

From People Magazine.com: Neil Patrick Harris is gay ? and wants to quell recent reports that he had denied it. The actor tells PEOPLE exclusively:

"The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.

"So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."

Harris, 33, currently stars in the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother. He shot to fame in 1989 at age 16 when he played a teen-prodigy doctor on the hit Doogie Howser, M.D. "It was a very fast but wonderful education," he told PEOPLE in 1998.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

After the show went off the air in 1993, he shook off his teen image with roles in the musicals Rent and Assassins and a wild turn as an unhinged version himself in the 2004 movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.

"I'm enjoying my 30s," he told PEOPLE in 2004. "I feel like I know where I'm going. And I like where I'm going."

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So what is up with all these celebrities coming out in the pages of People magazine lately? It is becoming the "in" thing to be gay and then announce it via People Magazine. As reported here first, we had Lance Bass from 'N Sync come out this summer, then T.R. Knight from Gray's Anatomy made the announcement last month, and now Neil Patrick Harris admits he'd gay, all in People Magazine. So, who will be the next celebrity to kick down the closet door and come out? I won't say who I think it should be... I'll just paint you a mental picture...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Gay's Anatomy

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Fan's of the mega hit ABC medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" will especially want to check this out.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight says he's gay, but hopes people don't consider that "the most interesting part of me." The 33-year-old actor addressed rumors of his sexuality in a statement to People magazine Thursday.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

"I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there," Knight's statement read. "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

Knight plays Dr. George O'Malley on the popular ABC drama. A former stage actor, his television credits also include "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Knight's "Grey's Anatomy" character, a bumbling, puppy-eyed surgeon, has long been in love with Dr. Meredith Grey ( Ellen Pompeo).

Also, you may have missed this, but another star has also come out of the closet this week. On Wednesday, former "American Idol" finalist R.J. Helton came out when he told Sirius Satellite deejay Larry Flick, "Just because I am gay does not mean I can't love God." After telling Flick he'd just outed himself "three seconds ago," he said, "It feels good."

This is kinda ironic because his first studio album has lots of religious Christian undertones.. If you want to support him, you can buy it from Amazon.com for $12 right here.

Who will be the next person to come out of the closet??? Time will tell... But Clay Aiken... I'm waiting!

New Gay TV Show To Debut on LOGO Tonight!

If you have LOGO on your cable or satellite system, you won't want to miss a new show premiering tonight at 10PM. It is called Jacob & Joshua: Nemesis Rising. Now obviously I haven't seen it yet either, so I can't say for sure if it is good or not, but the concept sounds very interesting and I'll be checking it out to see it for myself.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

From LogoOnline: Jacob and Joshua: Nemesis Rising follows identical twins who could not be more different. Joshua is a free spirit, a party boy and exceedingly single while Jacob is focused, driven and involved in a long-term relationship. As singers the duo harmonize perfectly with Jacob leaning more toward pop and Joshua a little more toward rock n' roll. After uprooting themselves from their country home in Montana to Los Angeles, the twins find themselves at a critical crossroads professionally and personally. They need a hit record or they face being dropped from their label. Breaking new ground in the pop music world, the twins will be marketed as openly gay artists necessitating their "coming out" to their family, friends and fans.

Jacob Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Attractive, physically fit, talented and focused would best describe Jacob Miller. Born and raised as Jehovah's Witnesses, he and his identical twin brother Joshua left their small town in Montana just after high school to Nashville with hopes and dreams of fulfilling their musical ambitions. Although neither of their parents have a musical background, the boys quickly fell in love with music as they would listen to their parent's records for endless hours growing up, dissecting the harmonies. Some of Jacob's best memories as a child where when his father would have family and friends gather at the picnic table as he proudly placed his two twin boys on top of it to perform for his guests. On another occasion, while the boys were walking down a two lane country road to the candy store, their uncle drove by in his pickup truck, picked up the boys and drove off to his warehouse so that they could sing for his co-workers. Some may say that Jacob is the driving force behind the pop/rock music group Nemesis; however, it is the incredible dynamic of the two that creates a unique and unforgettable sound.

Joshua Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Though Joshua and Jacob Miller are identical twins, they could not be more different. Joshua, the older of the two, is a free spirit who lives life to its fullest, while Jacob is known to proceed with caution, often taking the lead to ensure the two stay focused on their careers. Joshua is an extremely talented musician who has been writing music since high school, though he admits if it was not for Jacob coming out of the closet and deciding to leave their sleepy town in Montana for Nashville, he would still be home milking cows. Joshua loves his music, his adventurous nights out on the town, and although it would seem that he bickers with Jacob non-stop, at the end of the day they are always there for one another as they carve a niche in the cut-throat entertainment industry.

Again, catch the debut episode Monday, October 16th at 10PM. If you miss it, they are airing it just a few more times. Times and dates subject to change... in other words, if LOGO changes their schedule, don't blame me!
